The aim of this scheme is to provide incentives and assistance in the form of government fundings to existing and/or new businesses in the manufacturing sector of food and beverage, in order to promote the application of the System for food safety management – HACCP.

The scheme covers all food and beverage products.

The beneficiaries are existing and/or new businesses:

(a) which are registered in the records of the Director of Medical Services and Public Health of the Ministry of Health, or in the records of the Director of Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, and

(b) are about to invest or have invested money during 2008 to upgrade their production facilities and/or the purchase of new eequipment to implement the HACCP system.

Eligible costs are those for machinery and equipment, which is required for the implementation and/or maintenance of the HACCP system and include:

(a) investement on surface areas for production which require proper hygiene practices for the implementation of the  HACCP system.

(b) machinery/equipment for production with a total value of less than €10.000.

(c) machinery/equipment which is essential for the inspection of critical control points (C.C.P’s).

(d) devices for controlling the environment/atmosphere of the factory space
(temperature/humidity/contamination.

(e) machinery/equipment which is required for the verification of the HACCP system and which exists in the areas of food production and not in sales areas. Also, there is not funding granted towards machinery/equipment used during the transportation of food and beverages to sales areas.

The scheme does not apply for restaurants, grills, and areas of mass gathering .

The funding can reach up to 30%, with the maximum amount granted €85.000.
