Our organisation successfully completed the experiential workshop with topic: “Dealing with Gangs or Youth at Risk”. The workshop falls within the framework of the European project “EUGANGS – New skills and competences to address skills gaps and mismatch within the sectors working with Gang and Youth Crime across Europe”.
The training consisted of five meeting that were held in Nicosia from 05/11/2014 to 03/12/2014.
Twenty-two people, who are involved in education and/or with people who belong to the target group of the project or who are considered to be at risk of becoming a target group, as well as people who are interested in the topic (such as lawyers, social workers, psychologists, teachers, professors, sociologists, police officers, volunteers and so on) participated in the training.
The issues discussed during the training were as follows:
- Configuring policies
- Interpersonal communication
- Safe working environment
- Psychological approaches
- Social structure
At the end of the training, the participants obtained the certificate of successful attendance.
The next stage, which will start at the beginning of 2015, is the transfer of knowledge and training materials/methodologies that the participants attained, to their working environments, their colleagues and associates.
The gangs dominate most of the cities of the European Union and yet there is not one systematic, supportive and compact educational programme that would handle the structural, cultural, social, psychological and public general policy framework in which the gangs function.
The aim of the project is for skills and deficiencies to be categorised in order for an educational programme to be developed that would assist the professionals who deal with the consequences of gang crimes and their adverse effects.
Organisations from the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Italy have participated in this project since 01/10/2013 and until its completion on 30/09/2016.
