Scheme for Employer Subsidies for Unemployed in the Hotel, Food Service, and Tourism Industry

This scheme aims to provide incentives for hiring individuals who were registered as unemployed at the Public Employment Service Offices on April 19, 2013 (excluding those hired between April 1st and 18th, 2013, who must have been registered as unemployed until their hiring date). Individuals under suspension by their employers in hotels are not included, and employers are obligated to rehire them. The scheme aims to engage the aforementioned individuals through full-time employment.

Target Audience: Employers from the Hotel, Food Service, and Tourism Industry, among others:

  • Have not previously received subsidies for employing the individual they intend to hire.
  • Employ unemployed individuals who are citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, citizens of any other EU Member State, or those with equivalent rights.
  • The hiring of the unemployed must have occurred after April 1st, 2013, and by the closing date of the invitation.

Note: For hires made between April 1st and April 19th, 2013, the calculation of the 7 or 12-month period will be based on April 19th.

Amount and Funding:

  • 40% of the employee’s wage cost for 8 months of employment, provided the employee remains employed for at least 12 months.
  • 30% of the employee’s wage cost for 5 months of employment, provided the employee remains employed for at least 7 months.

Exclusions from the Scheme:

  • Businesses/employers hiring individuals who are their major shareholders.
  • Self-employed individuals (as employers/employees).
  • Businesses/employers hiring individuals who are spouses or related by blood or marriage to the first or second degree to the employer.
